What We Do

The Foundation’s mission is two-fold:

  • To enhance Library materials, services, programs and equipment.  

  • To increase our endowment, providing future income for the Library.

​

To further that mission, the Foundation supports many programs and activities that improve the experience of Mary Riley Styles Public Library users, including the reading program pictured above. Many Foundation-sponsored programs may be found on the library calendar.

 

Foundation funding includes support of:

New Books

The Foundation helps the library acquire a wide range of new books and other materials for readers of all ages.

A Digital Archive

With Foundation support, a new digital archive is providing access to City records, historic documents and photographs making the Falls Church story easily available to the public.

Concerts

Musical performances and author readings are a regular cultural attraction supported by the Foundation.

Adult Programs

Adult programs include one-off art workshops and improv sessions, and weekly drop-in meetings such as fiber arts, pictured above.

Recent Initiatives

Supported the Library renovation with a $50,000 contribution towards completing the purchase of staff furniture and funding the Children’s Room mural.

Celebrated and recognized library staff during National Library Week (generally held in the second week of April).

Grew our endowment. The endowment generates significant interest, which will be available to the library when needed.


Funded:

  • additional collection materials including books, audiobooks, eBooks, and DVDs.

  • prizes given to teens and adults for summer reading.

  • additional children’s and adult programs, including [add 1 or 2 specifics here]

Created the annual Chet De Long Award for Outstanding Service to the Library to recognize a staff person or volunteer who exemplifies Mr. De Long’s dedication and generosity as a long-time volunteer.
